Summary:Process for producing butane and gasoline of high isooctane content, from a C4 olefin cut issued from a steam cracking unit, comprising the steps of: polymerizing at least 90% of the isobutene of the cut mainly to dimers and trimers thereof, hydrogenating the resulting polymerization mixture to normal butane, isooctane and isododecane, supplying the effluent from the hydrogenation unit to a separation zone to recover a gaseous fraction and a liquid mixture, and fractionating the liquid mixture to separate gasoline of high isooctane content, a C3- fraction and a butane fraction which is recycled to the steam cracking unit.
