Summary: | A process for the recovery of rhenium from a rhenium-containing catalytic composition comprising rhenium, platinum and alumina by treating the catalytic composition with an aqueous caustic soda solution in such a manner that the platinum- containing residue is removed from the solution, preferably by filtration, the resultant solution containing perrhenate and approximately from 100 to 200 g Al2O3/litre and from 150 to 300 g NaOH/litre, adsorbing the perrhenate contained in the resultant solution on a macroporous anion- exchange resin carrying quaternary trialkylammonium anchor groups, and extracting perhenic acid from the anion-exchange resin by treatment with hydrohalic acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid, at an elevated temperature. A solution containing dissolved platinum and rhenium may be obtained by adding elemental platinum to the hydrohalic acid extract and chlorinating. |
