Summary:Probe is used for investigating temp. variations, layering or other changes in the contents of the cavern, which may contain oil or radio active byproduct, etc. The lowered probe, has bottom section rotatable about a vertical axis. A jib arm is hinged to the bottom end of this rotatable section, swivelling out relative to the vertical probe axis; this bears part of the appts. There may be swivelling counterweight at the bottom end of the probe, opposite the jib arm in the same plane. This permits recording of precisely defined data and simplifies elimination of interferences in readings.
