Summary:The formulation comprises the reaction prod. of (a) >=1 water-soluble inorganic or organic acid salt of an active ingredient (I) contg. basic N atoms and (b) >=1 water-soluble salt, esp. Na or K salts, of a copolymer of methacrylic acid (MA) and methacrylate ester (ME); of MA and acrylate ester (AE), or of MA-ME-AE. The reaction prod. is then formulated conventionally opt. together with inert, water-insoluble pharmaceutical auxiliaries. Opt. reaction is carried out in presence of the auxiliaries, esp. starch or cellulose, and the pref. salts of (I) are with HCl, H2SO4 or CH3COOH. The compsns. are tasteless so are esp. useful for oral admin. to children. The reaction prod. is decomposed in the gastro-intestinal tract giving unhindered resorption of (I) but the copolymer is not resorbed and is excreted unchanged. (I) is stabilised by salt formation with the copolymer.
