Summary:Monolithic metal catalyst for the purification of exhaust gases from i.c. engines, e.g. from motor cars, consists of two metal foils which produce gas passages and are wound to a roll for insertion in a housing. The foils are jointed to each other, and the roll is joined to the housing, by electron beam welding. This provides a reliable fixture of the thin (5/100 mm) metal foils to each other. The roll is fixed in the housing firmly enough to resist all shocks and vibrations.
