Machine tool comprises a bed (10) with a horizontal slide track (12) upon which a bed slide (14) moves backwards and forwards. The slide (14) carries various major assemblies with it, including a tool magazine (16) containing holders each with a tool. The bed slid (14) also carries a facing slide (18) containing the tool location, grips being provided to move fresh tools into position and return tools to the magazine. The whole movement area of the bed slide (14) and its major assemblies is protected by a cover (20) on the operating side, the cover being in the form of a roller blind. The blind has hand grips at the lowr edge, enabling its position to be adjusted manually.
