Summary:1527845 Production of acyl cyanides BAYER AG 29 March 1977 [2 April 1976] 13152/77 Heading C2C The invention relates to a process for the preparation of an acyl cyanide of the general formula in which R represents optionally substituted alkyl with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, optionally substituted cycloalkyl with 3 to 12 carbon atoms or optionally substituted aryl or represents an optionally substituted 5-membered or 6-membered heterocyclic radical which can optionally be fused with a benzene ring, in which an acid halide of the general formula in which R has the abovementioned meaning, and X represents halogen, is reacted with an alkali metal cyanide or anhydrous hydrocyanic acid in the presence of a cyanide of metals of Sub-Groups IB and 2B of the Periodic Table and optionally in the presence of a diluent, at a temperature of between 100‹ and 300‹ C.
