Battery charger for electric cars - has bridge circuit with non-controlled rectifiers connected to AC voltage source

A battery charger for electric cars has a bridge circuit with non-controlled rectifiers connected to an a.c voltage source. The bridge output is connected through a choke to the battery. Rectified voltage (U5) from the bridge (5) is lower than the battery voltage (U3), and an additional voltage (U7)...

Summary:A battery charger for electric cars has a bridge circuit with non-controlled rectifiers connected to an a.c voltage source. The bridge output is connected through a choke to the battery. Rectified voltage (U5) from the bridge (5) is lower than the battery voltage (U3), and an additional voltage (U7) is generated by connection to the bridge output (9,10) alternately of two paths, of which one consists of the choke (7), and the other of the choke (7) in series with a diode (6) and the battery (3). The switching is done by an electronic circuit. The two current paths are connected several times to the bridge output (9,10) during a half-wave of the a.c voltage.
