Summary:1470726 Coated artificial sausage casing TEE PAK INC 25 Sept 1975 [18 Oct 1974] 39380/75 Heading B2E An artificial sausage casing of regenerated cellulose is coated on its internal surface with an aqueous composition comprising a watersoluble cellulose ether (or an alkali metal salt thereof) and a mixture of mono- and diglycerides of oleic acid having a capillary melting point not higher than 130‹F, the composition being applied prior to shirring of the casing and in such amount as to provide 0.01- 0.1 mg/in2 of each of the cellulose ether and glyceride mixture. The glyceride mixture should not contain more than 10% by weight of triglyceride and the coating composition may also include a palmitic, oleic or stearic acid ester of sorbitan or manitan. The cellulose ether may be carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, ethyl- or carboxymethylhydroxyethylcellulose, or hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose. Application of the coating composition may be regulated to simultaneously humidify the casing and bring its moisture content to about 18 Œ 1% by weight. Coating may be effected by introducing a quantity of the aqueous composition into the casing or by spraying.
