1463727 Subbing photographic material CIBA-GEIGY AG 18 June 1975 [4 July 1974] 29665/74 Heading G2C [Also in Division B2] A photographic material comprises a film of biaxially oriented linear polyester (particularly polyethylene terephthalate) which may be treated, e.g. with a solution of a phenolic compound or by corona discharge, to improve the adhesion of a coating layer thereto, a first coating of a copolymer of vinylidene chloride, a monomer selected from alkyl acrylate, alkyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate and acrylonitrile, at least one copolymerizable acid, and either (a) an allyl or vinyl component of general Formula:- where m is 0 or 1, R 1 is -H or -CH 3 when m is 1 but is -H when m is 0, X 1 is Br or Cl and R2 and R 3 are each -H, -CH 3 or the same halogen as X 1 , or (b) a vinyl component of general Formula:- where X 2 is Br or Cl, and a further coating of either (a) a gelatine layer over which may be coated a gelatino-silver halide emulsion, or (b) a polyvinyl alcohol or acetal layer having a diazonium salt incorporated therein or coated thereon.
