Summary: | Alloy with good physical properties up to 720 degrees C; only slightly attacked by molten Na; and with very little swelling when irradiated. The novelty is compsn. 14-19% Cr, 25-35% Ni, 2-3% Mo, 0.1-1% Si, 0.5% max. Mn. 0.03-0.05% C, 0.01% max. each S,P,B,O2, 0.02% N2, balance iron and trace impurities; and with Nv value 1.6-2.8. The pref. alloy contains 15-18% Cr, 0.25-0.5% Mn, and is worked and heat-treated to give high yield-point and fatigue strength, and good tensile strength at temps. arising in a nuclear reactor, with loss by corrosion due to Na below 0.025-0.051 mm/year. After irradiation of 3 x 1023 nvt, the swelling is pref. max. 5%. The alloy is used for components for fast breeder reactors cooled with liq. sodium. |
