Summary:The normal wash program of a domestic washing machine consists of heating to 40 degrees C with the drum stationary, followed by heating to 60 degrees (and to 95 degrees) with the drum revolving. When the clothes are not very dirty, this can be changed by an extra selector switch to heat to a selected temp. (60 degrees C) and revolve the drum for a longer period. The drum motor uses much less energy than the electric heating so that the switching over gives considerable power savings.
