Summary:Hydraulic binder-contg. nickel catalyst is produced by pptg. Ni5MgAl2(OH)16.CO3.4H2O or Ni6Al2(OH)16.CO3.4H2O from aq. soln. onto suspended carrier particles, separating the particles carrying the above salt, drying, calcining, mixing with a calcium aluminate cement and water, moulding, allowing to set, and reducing the salt to produce nickel catalyst. The calcium aluminate cement is used in an amt. of 5-40 wt % w.r.t. the calcined mixt. The catalyst is used for methanation of gases contg. carbon oxides (usually 10-32 wt % CO) and hydrogen at 250 degrees C. Within this temp. range, the catalyst has good mechanical strength and activity.
