Summary:Regeneration of ion exchangers used in desalinating aq. solns., and worked esp. in H-cycle, takes placed by pre-treating one ion-exchanger, before its regeneration, with the used regenerating agent of the other ion exchanger. In pre-treatment, ions extd. from desalinated soln. are displaced almost completely by the homologous ions of the used regenerating agent. A 1st soln. is obtd., contg. total amt. of ions extd. from the desalinated soln. and opt. a small excess of used regenerating agent. On regeneration of the pre-treated ion-exchangers, a 2nd soln. is obtd., separately from 1st. 2nd soln. contains only the salt formed from the regenerating agents and opt. a slight excess of the regenerating agent for the pre-treated ion exchanger. Method is useful in treatment of brackish-, sea- and other waters, food industry solns., e.g. sugar solns., waste waters, e.g. from metal-working industry and waters contg. toxic components.
