Summary:Readily ignitable compsn. evolving relatively low amts. of gases and heat contains a combustible substance (e.g. Sb, Si or Sb2S3) and, as an oxygen source, a mixt of Mn(IV) or Fe (II, III) oxides and an alkali metal salt of an O-contg. acid (e.g. KClO4 or KNO3) in a wt. ratio oxide:salt of 80:20 to 40:60. The burning speed can be regulated by varying the components and the oxide:salt ratio; the delay ranges from milliseconds to seconds; the burning is uniform. The compsn. has low sensitivity to friction and impact.
