Summary:Trivalent iron-contg. flocculating agents for treating liquids. e.g. effluent waters, and for water treatment, are made by partial oxidation of aq. solns. of divalent iron with atmospheric O in the presence of H2SO4 and catalytic active charcoal, at is not >130 degrees C (preferably 40-80 degrees C), in the reaction zone of a fluidized bed, and during the oxidation, removing part of the active charcoal from the immediate reaction zone and reblending for the process of regeneration. The continuous catalyst regeneration gives high rates of reaction compared with known processes.
