Summary:The rotating piston moves eccentrically relative to a main housing surface and it is necessary to provide an efficient seal between inner and outer regions. A piston ring of hardened material is located with clearance in the groove in the piston. The piston ring is forced into contact with the housing surface by a profiled ring spring, that is secured to the piston ring by a rivet. To prevent oil leakage around the piston ring, via the piston ring groove, an elastomer 'O' ring is located in a groove in the side of the main piston ring.
