Summary:This invention relates to a smoking article or smoking-article component having wrapped around it a band or strip of material shrinkable by the heat of hot smoke from the approaching coal when the article is smoked. Such a band may be wrapped around the tobacco rod of the article near the end to be placed in the mouth, around a filter or mouthpiece or around a body of smoke-impermeable material disposed between the tobacco rod and a filter or mouthpiece. Such a band may also be disposed inside a wrapping section of perforated or air-pervious material so as to close the said material against the passage of air until shrinkage occurs.
