Summary:1401543 Photographic dye image-receiving material EASTMAN KODAK CO 24 Aug 1972 [24 Aug 1971] 39427/72 Heading G2C A dye image-receiving element comprises a support bearing, preferably in order, a light reflecting layer containing an opacifying agent and, as binder, a vinyl polymer containing anionic alkaline aqueous solution, solubilizing groups and a dye image-receiving layer. Alternatively the light reflecting layer and dye image-receiving layer may be incorporated in a photographic film unit comprising a support bearing at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer, the or each emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye image-providing material, and a rupturable container containing an alkaline aqueous processing composition and which is positioned so that when a compressive force is applied thereto its contents are discharged within the film unit into contact with the silver halide emulsion layer. The receiving element may comprise a pH-lowering layer between the support and the light reflecting layer. The light reflecting layer may contain titanium dioxide as opacifying agent and may contain zinc oxide or be contiguous or adjacent a layer containing zinc oxide (see Specification 1398286). The light reflecting and dye image-receiving layers may each contain a basic polymeric mordant (Specification 1397646). The vinyl polymer may comprise repeating units of acrylic acid, sulphoalkyl acrylate or sulphoalkylmethacrylate, e.g. copoly (ethyl acrylate-acrylic acid-2-aceto-acetoxyethyl methacrylate), copoly (ethyl acrylateacrylic acid), or copoly (n-butyl acrylate-3- acryloxypropane-1-sulphonic acid sodium salt- 2-acetoacetoxy ethyl methacrylate). The silver halide emulsion layers may be direct-positive.
