1353567 Water - repellent silanes LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP 17 July 1972 [26 July 1971] 33417/72 Heading C3S [Also in Division C4] Novel compounds effective for long-term use as rain-repellent coatings on windshields, windows or other transparent and non-transparent surfaces comprise compounds of the formula (wherein R denotes -(CH 2 ) 3 CH 3 , R1 denotes -CH 3 , R11 denotes -(CH 2 ) 17 CH 3 and X denotes either all -OH or all -Cl); or (wherein R denotes -(CH 2 ) 13 CH 3 , X denotes -OH or -Cl and R1 denotes either Chlorotributyl - tin - bis - (chloromethyloctadecylsilane) chelate is prepared by reacting together methyloctadecyldichlorosilane, chlorotributyltin and anhydrous CuCl 2 , and may be hydrolysed with aqueous isopropanolic KOH to give hydroxytributyl - tin - bis - (hydroxymethyloctadecylsilane) chelate. Bis - dodecanethiol - tetradecylchlorosilane is prepared by reacting tetradecyltrichlorosilane with 1-dodecanethiol. Bis - hydroxyhexafluoropropanetetradecylchlorosilane is prepared by reacting tetradecyltrichlorosilane with 2,2-dihydroxyhexafluoropropane. The compounds may be dissolved in fluorocarbon propellants with or without 2-propanol and dispensed from aerosol cans.
