1314147 Centrifugal compressors CARRIER CORP 8 Feb 1972 [22 July 1971] 5859/72 Heading F1C A centrifugal compressor comprises a casing 10 formed with a cylindrical bore 11 extending inwardly from one end of the casing, into which a cylindrical end member 30 is inserted. Segmental arcuate members 35 having a radial dimension exceeding that of a circumferential groove 33 are inserted into the groove and then shifted axially so that their annular flanges 36 encircle the end member 30, and further segmental arcuate members 37 are then inserted into the remaining space in the groove with their annular flanges 40 engaging the bore 11. The members 35, 37 are then secured together as by screws 41. The end member 30 is then clamped up tightly against the members 35 by means of tie bolts 45 carried by lugs 47 attached to the outer end of the casing 10 as by screws 49. As shown, an inner cylindrical casing 13 may be provided to carry stator diaphragms such as 14, 15, 16. The compressor stages are arranged in two sets, of which only the respective first stages 17, 20 are shown, located back to back to minimize thrust.
