Summary:1368816 Purifying hexamethylenediamine UBE INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Nov 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 54536/71 Heading C2C 1,2-Diaminocyclohexane is removed from crude hexamethylenediamine by treating it, at a temperature up to 70‹ C., with periodic acid and/or its salts, then distilling off treated hexamethylenediamine. Sodium, potassium and ammonium periodates are mentioned, the amount added being dependent upon the proportion of cis and trans isomers of 1,2-diaminocyclohexane present and lying in the mol-ratio range 0À8 to 1À3 of salt to impurity respectively. The product may be further treated with caustic alkali to remove other, polarographically detectable by-products. The crude hexamethylenediamine may be the product of catalytic hydrogenation of adiponitrile, 1,4-dicyanobutene or #-aminocapronitrile.
