Summary:Foam-suppressing additives for compsn. contg. cleaning or complexing agents selected from anionic, amphoteric and non-ionic surfactants polymeric phosphates and complex-forming agents, have the formula (in which R1 and R2 are H or 1-24C hydrocarbon; R3 and R4 are 1-48C hydrocarbon opt. forming a ring; X is O or S; m = 0 or 1, n = 0-6, with the proviso that R1, R2, R3 and R4 contain altogether >=30C). The foam suppressing effect is independent of the nature of foam-producing substances of the hardness of water. The additives are effective even if present in small amts.
