Summary:1327591 Chloramphenicol dosage form YAMANOUCHI PHARMACEUTICAL CO Ltd 27 Nov 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 56527/70 Heading A5B A suspension of fine crystals of chloramphenicol palmitate is prepared by (a) mixmelting chloramphenicol palmitate with 3-10 weight % of a surface active agent selected from ethylene oxide adducts of C 12-18 fatty acids (n=15-30), C 12-18 fatty acid-sorbitan esters (n=10-25), alkylphenols (C 8-10 alkyl, n=15-30) and hardened castor oil (n=50 to 80) and co-ethylene oxide/propylene oxide adducts of C 12-18 alcohols (m=1-4, n=10-20), where m and n are the mean degrees of polymerization of propylene 'oxide and ethylene oxide, (b) quenching the melt to solidify it and (c) dispersing the solid in an aqueous medium using a colloid mill. The melt may be quenched in the cooled aqueous medium. The aqueous medium may comprise sucrose, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, methyl cellulose and/or. sodium carboxymethyl cellulose The aqueous medium including the solidified melt may be heated before dispersion by' the colloid mill. Surface active agents specified in the Examples are polyoxyethylene stearate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan stearate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan palmitate and polyoxyethylenated hardened castor oil.
