Summary:Yield of antibiotics in culture of actinomycin-forming streptomyces strain under submerged aerobic culture conditions in nutrient media containing C, N and inorganic salts, is increased by adding one or more V cps. such as meta- or ortho-vanadates, in solid or dissolved form (partic. in 0.001-0.004 molar concn.). Pref. the V cpd. promoter/s are added before nutrient medium sterilisation before or after inoculation at the least during logarithmic growth phase of culture.
