[Also in Divisions C2 and C4] Insecticidal compositions comprise as active ingredient at least one ester of the formula: in which Y is -CH 2 - or -S-, R 1 is hydrogen or methyl and R 2 is methyl, 2-methyl-1- propenyl or 2-methoxycarbonyl-1-propenyl when R 1 is hydrogen or R 2 is methyl when R 1 is methyl. The compositions may take the conventional form and include the usual adjuvants, particularly known synergists for pyrethroid type insecticides and other insecticides, e.g. other pyrethroids, organic chlorides, organo phosphorus compounds and carbamates. Examples 8-15 relate to the preparation of oil sprays, an emulsifiable concentrate mosquito coil, a granular composition, an aerosol and a dust, some of which contain as a synergist, 3, 4-methylenedioxy-6-propylbenzylbutyl diethylene glycol ether, and as an addition insecticide, 0, 0-dimethyl-0-(3-methyl- 4-nitrophenyl) phosphorothioate or 3, 4, 5, 6- tetrahydrophthalimidomethyl chrysanthemate.
