The method is carried out so that at determined points of time, the value (R) of the ohmic resistance is determined, and emanating from this value of the resistance on the characteristic and/or the temperature of the capacitive element is determined. The ohmic resistance serves as a derived resistance. The value (R) of the resistance can be computed from a discharge time of the capacitive element. Es werden ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur Steuerung eines Stellers mit einem kapazitiven Element beschrieben. Parallel zu dem kapazitiven Element ist ein ohmscher Widerstand geschaltet. Zu bestimmten Zeitpunkten wird der Wert (R) des ohmschen Widerstands erfaßt und, ausgehend von dem Wert des Widerstands, auf die Art und/oder die Temperatur des kapazitiven Elements geschlossen.
