Bio-degradable plant pot is composed of a mesh of coir fiber strands in a dense structure at the upper section of the pot and an open mesh formation at the lower section for drainage without impeding root growth

Summary:The pot for growing or germinating plants is of a fiber material which degrades biologically, especially of coir fibers. The fibers are formed into a one-piece pot, open at the top, with side walls (1a) and a base (1b). The wall and base zones are sprayed with latex in a heated mold to shape the pot. The lower section of the pot (2a) has mesh openings (4) formed by intersecting fiber strands (4). The pot for growing or germinating plants is of a fiber material which degrades biologically, especially of coir fibers. The fibers are formed into a one-piece pot, open at the top, with side walls (1a) and a base (1b). The wall and base zones are sprayed with latex in a heated mold to shape the pot. The lower section of the pot (2a) has mesh openings (4) formed by intersecting fiber strands (4)., to ensure that the fiber material does not degrade prematurely while the plant roots grow and to drain a build-up of water in the pot. The thickness (4a) of the fiber strands (4) is matched to the mesh opening (3) dimensions. The upper section (2b) of the pot is formed of a denser structure of the separate fibers (4b) than the distribution of fibers at the lower section (2a) with the mesh opening (3) formation. The upper section (2b) of the pot is 40-60% of the pot height (1c), and the lower section (2a) of the pot covers 60-40% of the pot height (1c). The lower mesh openings (3) are shaped as a diamond (3a), a rectangle or a square, with the mesh structure in an irregular distribution in the lower and/or upper section (2a,2b) of the pot. The pot base (1b) is also in a mesh structure with openings (3) similar or dissimilar to those in the lower section (2a) of the pot. The upper rim (6) of the pot is formed by a ring (7) of dense separate fibers (4b). An Independent claim is included for a pot prodn. process, where the coir fiber material is sprayed with latex and shaped in a heated press mold. The blank is a round and flat disk, with mesh openings on both sides, which are opened out into the meshes when it is molded with individual pressures. Preferred Features: The upper section of the pot is pressed more strongly and thicker so that, at the upper section, the fibers are pressed together densely and close the mesh openings, while the mesh netting structure is retained at the lower section of the pot. The blank is formed by manual or machine knotting of the coir fiber strands.
