Summary:The detector (20) has a voltage limiter to limit a counter-EMV of a primary coil for switch elements which control the current supply to the primary coil. A capacitor (22) applies an ion flow detection voltage to the spark plugs (6) via the secondary coil. An ion flow detector determines an ion flow on the basis of a voltage applied by the capacitor to the spark plugs. A connector connects the capacitor to the voltage limiter. The voltage limiter is used to limit the capacitor voltage.
