Biological treatment of water using fungi

Process for purifying water contaminated with organic substances that are difficult to biodegrade comprises oxidising the substances by irradiation with light of wavelength 190-800 nm, preferably 190-400 nm, and exposing them to fungi, especially basidiomycetes, preferably cultured in a bioreactor.
