Discharge lamp turning ON circuit e.g. for metal halide lamp of light source in vehicle

The circuit (1) has a voltage/current detector (7) to detect the applied voltage and current equivalent to that voltage. The detector generates a detecting signal based on which an abnormality detector (5) detects the abnormality by comparing the level of the detecting signal with reference values....

Summary:The circuit (1) has a voltage/current detector (7) to detect the applied voltage and current equivalent to that voltage. The detector generates a detecting signal based on which an abnormality detector (5) detects the abnormality by comparing the level of the detecting signal with reference values. When the comparison result continues to be the same even after elapse of predefined time interval, then the abnormality of the discharge lamp is judged and electric power supply is stopped.
