Summary:1316796 Evaporators, flash type; separation of solvent from polymer solution BAYER AG 4 Dec 1970 [24 Dec 1969] 57639/70 Heading B1B Solid material, e.g. a polymer, is separated from a solution or suspension by introducing it through pipe 1 and nozzle 2 into flash evaporation chamber 3; the solvent vapours leave the chamber through pipe 6, and the solid is discharged by a device 11 comprising at least two mutually-scraping cylindrical screw shafts. The device 11 may comprise four screw shafts arranged in V-formation. The walls of the chamber 3 are equipped with a cooling jacket 5, so that some of the solvent vapour condenses thereon to form a film of liquid which prevents the formation of solid deposits. The housing of the device 11 is equipped with heating and/or cooling jackets 15, 16. The nozzle 2 is provided with an adjustable throttling device 17, and also with a cooling element (not shown).
