Conveyor zones 16, 17 and 18 each comprise 4 conveying screws in V-formation, Fig. 2, and evaporation sections 19 and 20, which may be steam-heated, comprise kneading discs in V-formation. Evaporated solvent is drawn off at 5, 23 and 24, and during operation chambers 4, 21 and 22 are sealed from each other by the material being treated. Jacket 7 cools the walls of chamber 4 to form a liquid film on the wall.
