Summary:A process for use in the production of nuclear fuel in powder form, involving conversion of a solution or suspension of nuclear fuel stuff into fluid drops with a means for control of the drop diameter. The solution is then atomised using an atomiser (11) within a high temperature oven (13). The droplets are then immediately dried and denitrified by pyrolysis. The immediate drying of the droplets permits the attainment of a granular powder with individual particles, with good handling properties whose use in the production of fuel pellets permits a simplified process to be used.
