Summary: | Tray designs comprising sheet material (expanded polystyrene) profiled and having gouged or compressed fold lines which allow a walled tray to be formed with can be held in shape by removable moulded corner towers. Pref. the corner towers provide lipped ledge which allows stacking. The ends of the tray walls may fold to overlap, or be champferred to form a 90 degrees butt joint. The trays may be quickly erected at the filling station by unskilled labour and collapsed to minimise storage/transport volumes) after use. (not convenient with conventional wood or moulded pulp trays). Thermoplastic material may be recovered and remoulded if required. Pref. the expanded polystyrene blank sheet is made by a sintering process (from pre-expanded beads) and incorporates a reinforcing layer or strips of film or fabric (jute, polyolefin, PVC, "rayon", etc). |
