[Also in Division C3] Nitrogen containing fibre materials are dyed with acid and 1:2 metal complex dyes in the presence of amines having glycol ether groups and their quaternisation products which are of formulae I and II: in which R is a C 12 -C 22 alkyl, C 12 -C 22 alkenyl or C 12 -C 22 cycloalkyl group, R 1 is a methyl group or one of the groupings of formulae III and IV: R 2 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl, M is a cation, R 3 is an optionally substituted C 1 -C 8 alkyl or aralkyl group the sum n+m is 5-70 such that at least 80% of the alkylene oxide units are ethylene oxide. Fibres treated include wool, silk, synthetic polyamides and barified polyacrylonitrile. M is preferably sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, monoethanolamine, diethanolamine or triethanolamine.
