Summary:1,214,353. Silicon carbide coated boron filaments. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP. 15 Feb., 1968 [24 Feb., 1967], No. 7448/68. Heading ClA. [Also in Divisions C6-C7] A boron filament is provided with a coating of silicon carbide by drawing the filament, resistively heated, through a reactor having inlets for the introduction of cooling hydrogen and a reactant gas mixture for formation of SiC, e.g. methyl dichloro silane, hydrogen and methane. Suitable apparatus is described. The coated filament is thereafter coated with a ductile, low density metal (see Divisions C6- C7). Specifications 1,214,351 and 1,214,352 are referred to.
