Summary: | 1,151,970. Slip clutches. BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc. 29 June, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 29980/67. Heading F2C. [Also in Division H1] A variable resistance device comprises a slip clutch-drive mechanism including a bowed disc-shaped clutch plate 40, e.g. of berylliumnickel alloys, or resilient rubber material, with projections (41) and 42 which engage in holes 34 and slots 37 in a drive plate 31 and rotor 18 respectively so that when rotation of the rotor is prevented by co-operating shoulders 28, 29 on the housing and rotor, either of the projections (41) and 42 resiliently disengage from their associated depressions 34, 37 if drive rotation of the driver plate is continued. When drive rotation of the driver is reversed the projections re-engage in the depressions and the rotor carrying the wiper for the resistance track once again rotates. In a modification, the clutch plate may be fixed to either the rotor or drive plate and have projections adapted to resiliently engage the other member. |
