Summary:1,210,510. Lubricants. RUHRCHEMIE A.G. 1 Dec., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 54766/67. Heading C5F. [Also in Division C3] Lubricants suitable for jet engines comprise liquid diorthosilicic acid esters of the formula where A is derived from HO-A-OH which is a monoester of a saturated C 3-20 monocarboxylic acid and a trimethylolalkane containing up to 10 C atoms and having the 3 methylol groups bonded to the same C atom, R is a C 4-20 alkyl group, n is 0 to 3, R1 is R111O(R11O) m R11- where R111 is C 1-8 alkyl, R11 is -C 2 H 4 - or -C 3 H 6 - and m is 1, 2 or 3. A typical compound is 111 - trimethylolethane monopivalatediorthosilicic acid (hexa-n-nonyl)ester. They may be used alone or with other conventional lubricants, e.g. mineral oils, carboxylic acid esters, other organosilicon compounds, polyphenyl ethers, phosphoric acid esters and stabilized dibasic esters having quaternary carbon atoms. Anti-oxidants, e.g. phenothiazine, may be included.
