Summary: | 1,165,308. Dimethylamisole. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 15 May, 1968 [17 May, 1967], No. 23181/68. Heading C2C. 2,6-Dimethylanisole is separated from 2,6- dimethylphenol by steam-distilling an aqueous alkaline mixture containing the two substances, whereby the 2,6-dimethylanisole passes on with the distillate and the 2,6-dimethylphenol remains in the residue. Preferably, the initial mixture is produced by reacting 2,6-dimethylphenol with methyl chloride at 20-100 C. and a pressure up to 15 atom. gauge, the reaction product being then treated as described above. As example is given. |
