Summary:1,196,671. Pneumatic conveyers. DETEXOMAT Ltd. 24 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 4016/67. Heading B8A. A pneumatic conveyer for collecting hosiery from circular knitting machines comprises a main conduit 11 through which the hosiery is passed under the action of suction to a collection point (not shown). A branch conduit 12 is connected to the main conduit 11 at each of four units 1 to 4, respectively, with an electromagnetically controlled valve V1 to V4. The operating coil of each of the valves V1 to V4 is connected on one side to an electrical supply terminal + V and on the other side to the anode of a silicon controlled rectifier SCR1 to SCR4, respectively, the cathodes of which are connected to supply terminal- V. In operation, with a D.C. voltage connected between terminals +V, -V a silicon controlled rectifier in start unit 14 is caused to conduct and valve V4 is opened to allow an article to pass from its associated branch conduit 112 to the main conduit 11. Pulses delivered from a pulse generator 13 thereafter cause valves V1 to V4 to be sequentially and cyclically controlled, the repetition frequency of the pulse generator 13 being adjustable so that the complete sequence of actuation of the valves V1 to V4 is synchronized with the time taken to knit a stocking. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the silicon controlled rectifier SCR2 is replaced by a thyratron (TV2) in an arrangement corresponding to unit 2 in Fig. 1.
