More Information
Summary:A synthetic polymer or a film-forming material having application in lacquers and printing inks, is pigmented with a dioxazine of formula <FORM:0998919/C3/1> wherein one of Hal1 or Hal2 is Cl and the other is Cl or Br. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylonitrile, a polymer of an ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, rubber, chlorinated rubber, a polyamide, a polyester (e.g. of ethylene glycolterephthalate), acetyl cellulose or viscose; and the film-forming material may be nitrocellulose, shellac, phenol-formaldehyde resin, melamine-formaldehyde resin, urea-formaldehyde resin, an alkyd resin, a modified alkyd resin, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetal, an unsaturated polyester with/without styrene, a saturated polyester, an unesterified or an esterified epoxide resin, an oil reactive alkyl phenol resin, a drying oil (e.g. linseed oil) or a ketonic resin. Fillers, pigments, plasticizers, siccatives, and organic solvents also may be present.ALSO:A pigmented composition for use as a lacquer or printing ink comprises a film-forming material and a dioxazine of formula <FORM:0998919/C4-C5/1> wherein one of Hal, or Hal2 is C2 and the other is C2 or B5. The film-forming material may be a drying oil such as linseed oil.ALSO:Aluminium or steel sheets or foils are coated by spraying with lacquers comprising a dioxazine of formula <FORM:0998919/B1-B2/1> wherein one of Hal1 or Hal2 is Cl and the other is Cl or Br. The examples disclose suitable lacquers based on: (3) urea-formaldehyde modified alkyd resin, (4) urea-formaldehyde resin, (5) coconut oil modified alkyd resin, and (7) epoxide resin.
