Summary:1,076,199. Pneumatic tyres. NATIONALSTANDARD CO. Feb. 18, 1966 [March 11, 1965], No. 6857/66. Heading B7C. A breaker for a pneumatic tyre comprises an annular ply 6 formed of a cord 8 lying in circumferentially successive overlapping convolutions and disposed within a ply 7 formed of a cord 9 wound in a helix coaxial with the ply 6, the cord 9 being of relatively high and low extensibility in an uncured and cured state respectively so as to permit expansion of a tyre in a mould and allow proper orientation of the breaker during, moulding. The cord 9, and optionally the cord 8, may comprise strands of, e.g. steel wound round a rubber core but the cord 8 is preferably inextensible and of cotton, nylon, rayon, fibre glass or metal. Either the cords are rubber-coated or the plies are laminated with rubber sheeting.
