Summary:Novel compounds having the formulae: <FORM:1032644/C2/1> wherein R is H or CH3, Y is H, OH or O-Acyl wherein the acyl radical is that of a hydrocarbon carboxylic acid containing 1-12 carbons, W is H or F, X1 is H, = O, a -OH, b -OH or X1 and W together represent a 9, 11-double bond, C1-C2 is single or double bonded, X is H, = O, a -OH, b -OH or a 9, 11 double bond, and R11 is H or acyl, are obtained by subjecting the corresponding 21 - alkyl - 61b - methoxy - 51, 61-dihydroandrostano-(17,16a -c)-pyran to acid hydrolysis, e.g. with mineral acids or p-toluenesulphonic acid. The product may be converted to the corresponding 16-methyl compounds by heating with a catalyst.
