Summary:1,172,782. V.T.O.L. Aircraft. ENTWICKLUNGSRING SUD G.m.b.H. 4 Jan., 1968 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 555/68. Heading B7G. A lift fan arrangement for V.T.O.L. aircraft comprises lift fans 60 . . . 64 installed either in the wings 20, 21 or mounted on the fuselage and supplied with gas through ducting 80 . . . 83 from gas generators 70 . . . 73 supported on top of the fuselage, and covered by an unstressed fairing. The gas generators 72, 73 supplying the lift fans 64, may be mounted on the wings. The fans 60, 61 may be retracted into the fuselage by pivoting about the axis of the ducts 80, 81. The fans 62, 63 may be pivotable about a transverse axis to give forward thrust. The gas generators 70 . . . 73 mounted on top of the fuselage may be lowerable by cables (130), Fig. 3 (not shown), through apertures (120) in the roof of the fuselage, into the interior of the fuselage for maintenance. The ducts 80 . . . 83 on top of the fuselage may be covered by either the unstressed fairing covering the engines 70 . . . 73, or by another adjacent fairing.
