The present invention relates to a connection element (1) designed having a ferrule (2) for producing a pipe connection (15) between the connection element (1) and a plastics pipe (12) or a metal-plastics composite pipe (12), comprising a connection element (1) having at least one support body (4), provided with a plurality of circumferential outer ribs (3, 3a, 3b, 3c), for a pipe end (13) to be slid on; and a ferrule (2) in engagement with the connection element (1); wherein the connection element (1) designed having a ferrule (2) is characterised according to the invention in that the ferrule (2) comprises at least one radially inwardly pointing engagement element (9) on its inner face, the connection element (1) comprises an engagement groove (8) in the region of the support body (4), and the engagement element (9)/the engagement elements is/are guided radially movably in the engagement groove (8); and/or the connection element (1) comprises at least one radially outwardly pointing engagement element on its outer face in the region of the support body (4), the ferrule (2) comprises an engagement groove on its inner face, and the engagement element/the engagement elements is/are guided radially movably in the engagement groove. The invention also relates to a pipe connection (15) between a pipe end (13) of a plastics pipe or a metal-plastics composite pipe and a connection element (1), comprising: a pipe end (13) of the plastics pipe or metal-plastics composite pipe; a connection element (1) designed according to the invention having a ferrule (2), wherein the support body (4) of the connection element (1) is inserted into the pipe end (13); the ferrule (2); and an outer sleeve (14) which is attached to the ferrule (2) for fixing the pipe end (13) on the support body (4) of the connection element (1).
