Summary:The invention relates to a method for operating a four-stroke internal combustion engine with spark ignition and direct fuel injection into a combustion chamber (2), wherein at least two injections are carried out per working cycle at least in the warming up range and/or in the operationally warm state of the internal combustion engine. In order to significantly reduce the emissions of particles there is provision that, preferably in a relatively high partial load range or full load range, a first injection is carried out in a first or second time window (EF1, EF2), and a second injection is carried out in a second or third time window (EF2, EF3) in the intake stroke.
