Summary:774,360. Spinning yarns ; textile thread &c. guides. SOC. DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES DE STAINS. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 28, 1954], No. 30382/55. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). A sliver comprising a blend of two fibres which differ in form or nature e.g. coarse and fine fibres of regenerated cellulose or cellulosic and polyamide fibres, is produced by separately feeding tows of filaments of each fibre material to a common device or separate devices in which each tow is spread uniformly, superposing the spread tows to form a composite tow and drawing the latter to effect breakage of the filaments thereof. In the apparatus of Fig. 1, tows R1 and R2 of different filaments drawn from bobbins 1 and 2 pass over polished tensioning bars 5, 6, and 3, 4, mounted in end plates 7 and 8 carried on levers 9 and 10 mounted on a common pivot pin 11 about which the assembly (including the bars) is rocked by the action of a cam 13 co-operating with a roller 12 and a spring 15 to spread the tows each pair R1, R2 of which is guided by fingers 17, 18 to a common guide roller 16 on which they are superimposed exactly: the doubled tows pass over feed rollers 20, 21, each being turned through 180 degrees in travelling on its roller 20, thence being directed to a rotating prism 22 having pronounced non- cutting edges over which the filaments break under the drafting action of rollers 23, 24. In modified apparatus, the tows R1, R2 converge towards a single rocking bar, Fig. II (not shown), or the bar assembly comprises two bars 26, 27, Fig. III, or the tows R1, R2 are spread by passage over a rotated squirrelcage, Fig. IV (not shown). As shown in Fig. V, the tows R1 and R2 are subdivided into groups of equal size by a pivotally mounted oscillated comb 31 which may be associated with the bar assembly shown in Fig. 1 (which may be mounted on a fixed support or rocked). Specification -734,937 is referred to.
