A coating composition (I) for the formation of a self-layering paint system comprises at least two resins, oligomers or polymers that are emulsifiable and dispersible in water and which exhibit different surface tensions and form self-layering phases. An Independent claim is included for a process for the production of a self-layering paint layer by emulsification or dispersion of at least two different resins, polymers or oligomers in water, optional addition of a hardener, mixing of the emulsions or dispersions together, application to the object to be coated by doctor blade, electrostatic or pneumatic spraying, followed by a pre-drying and hardening by means of UV, IR- near IR or microwave irradiation. Die Erfindung betrifft selbstschichtende oder selbstschichtbildende Lacksysteme aus mindestens zwei in Wasser emulgierbaren oder dispergierbaren unterschiedlichen Harzen, Oligomeren oder Polymeren, die jeweils unterschiedliche Oberflächenspannungen aufweisen und selbstschichtende Phasen bilden, die nach der Applikation in die Bestandteile der Formulierung separieren.
