A hydraulic circuit (11) has a rotary slide valve (5) and a steering cylinder (6) allocated to it. A control valve (CV) (7) adjusts a volume flow of a hydraulic substance subject to need and fits on a steering assistance pump (SAP) (1) on a pressure side so that the CV measures out a volume flow (Q) from the SAP into a first basic partial flow (A) and a second control partial flow (B). An Independent claim is also included for a method for operating a steering assistance device. Die Erfindung betrifft eine Lenkhelfvorrichtung mit einer Lenkhelfpumpe sowie ein Verfahren zum Betreiben einer Lenkhelfvorrichtung für ein Fahrzeug mit einem Hydraulikkreislauf (11) mit einem Drehschieberventil (5) und diesem zugeordneten Lenkzylinder (6) sowie einem Regelventil (7) zum bedarfsabhängigen Einstellen eines Volumenstroms eines Hydraulikmediums. Das Regelventil (7) ist druckseitig in oder an der Lenkhelfpumpe (1) so angeordnet, dass das Regelventil (7) den von der Lenkhelfpumpe (1) kommenden Volumenstrom (Q) zumindest in einen ersten Basisteilstrom (A) und einen zweiten Regelteilstrom (B) aufteilt. Der Basisteilstrom (A) ist unabhängig vom Betriebszustand des Regelventils (7), während der Regelteilstrom (B) abhängig vom Betriebszustand des Regelventils (7) ist.
